Web Forum Discussion - Advanced Healthcare Roundtable

Healthcare Web Forums - Provide Your Input

The AIA Academy of Architecture for Health is very pleased to announce the AIA/AAH Healthcare Web Forum Advanced Healthcare Roundtable initiative coming this Fall. Encouraged by the overwhelming success of our monthly, web-based seminars, the Academy leadership sees opportunity for a new value to our members by facilitating a more in-depth discussion of contemporary design issues in healthcare.

The primary objective of the Advanced Healthcare Roundtable is to stimulate dialogue, share ideas, and foster interaction amongst design professionals across the country about high profile, relevant topics in design for healthcare.

The venue of this event is to be a Web based format accessible in your personal office(s). It is to be informal in nature. The intent is a roundtable format, generally spontaneous, designed to foster discussion and to reveal the collective perspective of experienced representatives in the healthcare design arena. The emphasis on experience is not to the exclusion of the inexperienced, but actually to allow them to be exposed to the myriad issues and higher levels of thought to be considered relative to the topic.

The structure of the Roundtable is to have a moderator along with one or more nationally recognized expert on the selected topic online to facilitate and initiate discussion. The AIA/AAH intends to conduct this as a webinar so that graphic support is available. The panelists and the moderator will start with a 5-10 minute tee-up (orientation using graphics (plans, diagrams and photos). This is not to be construed as a presentation, per se, but a backdrop that supports the conversation. Then the dialogue will begin with an initiating question from the moderator. Initially we are thinking of such a program being offered every six weeks or so.

We are looking for your input in which topics you would like to address. Here are some preliminary topics:

  • Hybrid Procedure Rooms: What are the Combinations, Design Options & Implications?
  • Emergency Department Throughput: How Do Operational Models Affect Design Solutions?
  • Surgery Workflow: What Makes One Configuration Better than Another?
  • Pediatric Hospitals: What Makes Them Unique?

These topics are by no means fixed - we encourage members to submit suggestions while keeping in mind that the topics need to be varied widely over time to make it more interesting and help in advancing the knowledge of planning and design for healthcare environments.

We sincerely hope the Healthcare Web Forum Advanced Healthcare Roundtable becomes an integral part of the educational programs of the AIA/AAH. The Academy invites and counts on the current healthcare professionals to participate and contribute regularly towards the presentations made on the Roundtables.

Please take a moment to reply to this message with your thoughts about this proposed program, and more importantly, a few topics you think should be considered. Replies should be sent to Karthik Ramadurai at karthik@beckarchitecture.com.
