President Obama has linked resource conservation to his plan to stimulate the economy. Watch the interaction between John Podesta, president and CEO, Center for American Progress and co-chair of the Obama-Biden Transition Project and Ed Mazria, founder of Architecture 2030 in this conversation taped February 18 in which they talk about the impact of sustainability on politics and the building industry. Watch the video. Then submit your questions for them to answer on-line.
50 Principles for Immediate Carbon Reduction
50 to 50 is a compendium of 50 principles you can implement now to reduce the carbon footprint of a building by 50 percent of a building that does not employ these strategies. It is intended to be an informative and easily accessible reference to provide a basic understanding of these strategies as the first step toward the goal of making new and renovated building carbon neutral by 2030.
Nancy Somerville, Hon. AIA,
is the executive vice president and CEO of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). In that capacity, she has led ASLA’s participation as a founding partner in the Sustainable Sites Initiative™.
Will the Economy Reshape Us?
President Obama has said we'll be back stronger than ever. Richard Florida in Atlantic Monthly seems to agree, but perhaps differently vis a vis NYC. Less dependence on commerce means more creative diversity, he argues, and, thus a reinvigoration of that city.
