Coronado Theater Restoration
Receives National Trust Honor Award
For its restoration and adaptive reuse of the landmark Coronado
Theatre in Rockford, Ill., van Dijk Westlake Reed Leskosky of Cleveland
and Phoenix received the National Trust for Historic Preservation
National Preservation Honor Award. The award was presented on October
10 at the National Trust's National Preservation Conference in Cleveland,
Ohio, where the Coronado project was presented as a case study.
The Coronado Theatre revitalization also received a Downtown Achievement
Merit Award in Economic Development from the International Downtown
Association. The revitalization and expansion of the 1927 movie
palace, one of the country's finest examples of the eclectic atmospheric
style, has garnered numerous other design honors.

Architects Ask for Help to Repair Flood Damage
The Czech Chamber of Architects, the professional society of Czech
architects, is asking for donations to help mitigate damages resulting
from the severe floods that hit Prague and surrounding areas this
summer. The architects have launched a public fund-raising effort
to help restore affected buildings. As part of this effort, they
sent this
30-second mpg video (5.8 mb) to a number of architects' associations
around the globe, including the AIA. Click

a New York State License? Read the Following Information
NY Licensing Board rejecting
non-HSW-related credits
During the past several weeks, the AIA's Continuing Education System
(CES) department has been responding to queries from architects
about continuing education credits that they submitted to the New
York Licensing Board being rejected if they were not earned through
a health, safety, and welfare (HSW) program. We have confirmed that
in recent weeks, non-HSW-related programs offered by AIA/CES Providers
are being reviewed and rejected by the New York Licensing Board.
