Scientists Work with Architects on a Research Agenda
An interdisciplinary assembly of 28 architects and neuroscientists explored potential connections between study of the mind and creation of the built environment at the "Healthcare Facilities Design and Neuroscience Workshop," August 13–15 in Woods Hole, Mass. The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is calling for entries to its 2002 GSA Design Awards program. The biennial program, now in its seventh term, recognizes outstanding achievements that result from partnerships between the federal government and private firms and individuals across the country. FROM OUR FRIENDS AT AIA MONTEREY BAY
AIA Monterey Bay, in collaboration with Monterey County and the cities of the Monterey Peninsula, invites all to take part in the "Concepts: Housing Solutions for Our Communities" international housing design competition for Monterey County, Calif. The purpose of the competition is "to stimulate ideas for the creation of new housing in the Monterey Bay region and create new housing models for the nation."

Multidisciplinary teams are encouraged to submit entries, which are due October 31. Phase One winners will receive cash honorariums to develop their housing solutions during Phase Two. For more information, visit the competition Web site.
