“The New ADA Standards: What You Need to Know” Among Convention Sessions Now Available On-Demand
Summary: The AIA 2009 National Convention and Design Exposition in San Francisco has been packed, but much of the knowledge and expertise that flowed through the Moscone Center has been uploaded to the Web and is now available on demand to AIA members through July 31. “The New ADA Standards: What You Need to Know,” presented by John Salmen, AIA, and Andrew Yarrish, AIA, is one of 14 sessions videotaped and streamed live to members across the nation and now available on demand.
The session covers proposed changes in new accessibility standards across a variety of building types and provides insight into developing compliance strategies for existing and proposed ADA Accessibility Guidelines. (As is presented in this program, the proposed changes to the ADA-AG as developed by the Access Board have not been adopted by the Justice Department, nor have the rules outlining the scope and application requirements for the standard been issued. The original rules adopted by DOJ are still applicable for all publicly or privately funded projects. GSA, USPS, and DOD have adopted the new guidelines.) Members viewing these streaming sessions also are eligible for continuinng education credits.
All 14 sessions—which include, among other topics, the downturn in the design and construction industry, sustainability, and design—are available here. More information on the 2009 convention’s live-streaming sessions is available through the AIArchitect archive. |
