Housing Symposium to Tackle Innovations for Affordability
Join the Housing and Custom Residential (H&CR) Knowledge Community, the Association for Community Design, and AIA Arizona on October 3–5 in Phoenix for “Innovations and Collaborations in Housing Affordability,” a symposium focusing on innovative and collaborative efforts that are tackling housing affordability and creating thriving residential developments and communities. Presentations and workshops at the symposium will address topics such as mixed-income developments, design and advocacy, sustainable and inclusive design for affordable housing, and housing design education in the schools, among others. A half day of tours to residential sites that illustrate the ideas and issues covered in the symposium will take place on the final day. Participants will be eligible to earn up to 10 AIA Continuing Education System (CES) learning units. For more information or to register, visit the H&CR Web site.

Coming Up: AIA Project Delivery Workshop
The AIA Project Delivery Workshop, September 9, in Park City, Utah, is cost effective ($75) and time effective (there’s a one-day agenda). Sponsored by the AIA Public Architects knowledge community, the workshop will cover design-bid-build, design-build, CM@Risk, and bridging, as well as cutting-edge variations on alternative project delivery methods, such as rotation and alliancing. Participants will understand the differences among the various project delivery methods and strategies and how to pick the best method for a project, understand the architect’s roles and responsibilities associated with the different delivery methods, and be able to work in more collaborative environments where each will be supportive of the other in order to complete the project. Attendees will be eligible to receive four AIA CES credits for attending this workshop. Advance registration is available through August 27. Visit the AIA Public Architects Web site for more details or to register.
