Julia Morgan Named to California Hall of Fame

The California Museum's Hall of Fame, inaugurated in 2006, has just announced its list of 12 inductees for 2008, including architect Julia Morgan (1872–1957), designer of the Hearst Castle and the first female architect in California. Also on the list of this year’s inductees—“notable and legendary Californians who have made extraordinary achievements in the fields of music, architecture, art, literature, politics, science, cinema, fitness, and food”—are jazz musician Dave Brubeck, Oscar-winning actors Jane Fonda and Jack Nicholson, and Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling. Morgan is the second architect to be so honored; Frank Gehry was the first, in 2006. The inductees will be honored in a December 10 ceremony by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver.
