Healthcare Technology
May 20, 2:00–3:30 p.m. (ET)
Kelly Spivey, vice president, managing director, Dallas for Equipment Collaborative Inc., will explain how today’s operating rooms are a complex web of telecommunications systems, power, medical gases, and image-guided technologies that all converge and compete for optimal positions near the patient. Add surgical staff, booms, lighting, and mechanical systems and planning the ceiling layout becomes a kit of competing parts. This session will highlight the key differences and options for the various systems on the market and discuss strategies for planning today's operating rooms/interventional rooms with flexibility and adaptability in mind. After registering for this event, you may invite as many coworkers and clients as you want to share in this live meeting with you. Site registration is $195. For more information, visit the registration Web site.

Case Study of LEED-CI Gold Project: The International Interior Design Association Headquarters
May 27, 2:00–3:00 p.m.
Join Kendall P. Wilson, AIA, LEED-AP, Envision; Andy Holub, Turner Construction; and John Panek, PE, LEED-AP, KJWW Engineering Consultants, as they explore the International Interior Design Association Headquarters, which relocated to space within the Chicago Merchandise Mart last fall. The IIDA wanted to set an example to its members and the design community by building a space that was certified LEED® Gold under the USGBC’s Commercial Interiors rating system. They will review the challenges in achieving a high level of LEED-CI certification in a 1920s era building located in a dense urban environment. They will explain the key design strategies and the LEED-CI credits. Site registration is $95. For more information, visit the registration Web site.

After registering for a Web seminar, you can invite as many coworkers and clients as you want to share in the live meeting with you. Each session qualifies each participant for 1.5 learning units of AIA/CES credit.

CAE: It’s a Flat World After All

Fall conference in Helsinki takes place September 10-13
Globalization now affects every industry, as journalist Thomas L. Friedman illustrated in his best-selling The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the 21st Century. The AIA Committee on Architecture in Education invites you to attend the “Schools in a Flat World: Global Perspectives on Pedagogy and the Built Environment” conference in Helsinki, Finland, September 10–13. This international gathering of architects and other school building professionals will explore cutting-edge, globalized approaches to school design and project delivery through best practices and case studies from around the globe. Guided tours of Helsinki schools that follow a collaborative global model for their design and construction will also be part of the program. For more information, visit the CAE Web site.
