The Peace Corps Needs Skilled Volunteers

Summary: To bring more skilled and knowledgeable volunteers to the field, the Peace Corps is reaching out to professionals in the fields of urban planning and design, construction, and the skilled trades who are interested in new and challenging opportunities or considering alternatives to traditional retirement.

Volunteers with experience in planning and construction may teach vocational education in schools or training centers or work with communities and local governments to facilitate the planning and construction of health centers, markets, or other projects while transferring skills to community members and young people. For example, volunteers with a degree in urban planning may work with municipalities, community groups, or regional and national governments on infrastructure development and improvement, strategic planning, or community assessment projects.

Currently, there is a need for planning, construction, and skilled trade volunteers in Europe, South America, Africa, and the Pacific Islands. (Pictured, Volunteer Samuel Bacote works with local counterparts in Ghana. Photo courtesy of the Peace Corps.)
