UIA and ICOMOS Sign Cooperation Agreement

Gaetan Siew, president of the International Union of Architects (UIA), and Michael Petzet, president of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), signed an agreement of cooperation between their organizations on March 21 in Paris. UIA and ICOMOS will reinforce their collaboration by sending representatives to each other’s assemblies on a regular basis and mutually naming experts to participate in scientific working groups. ICOMOS will be associated with the development and enrichment of the UIA Web site dedicated to 20th-century architectural heritage and will invite a UIA representative to participate in its related international scientific committee. In turn, the UIA will invite a representative of ICOMOS to participate in the Architectural Education Commission’s group on teaching preservation techniques and will submit propositions and opinions on additions to the World Heritage List. The UIA also will support ICOMOS and contribute to its Heritage at Risk actions. UIA and ICOMOS will also develop collaboration with other organizations involved with architectural heritage. For more information, visit the ICOMOS Web site.
