Marvin Malecha, FAIA

This is a time for the AIA to seize the opportunity for leadership. Our profession is bursting with new knowledge; with skills tested by application and measured by how we improve the lives of those who experience our work.

To assert this leadership we must:

  • Lead an effort of collaboration aggressively reaching out to a broad spectrum of partners that will bring the power of design to our communities and establish the architect as a leader.
  • Intensely listen to members to focus the initiatives of the Institute. Success will be measured by how we meet the needs of the individual practitioner.
  • Broaden membership participation in strategic planning; member intentions must become Institute priorities.
  • Build upon the foundation of the components as leaders of national initiatives. It is the components that are the energy force of the AIA.
  • Commit to refresh the spirit of our Institute by expanding opportunities for women and minorities and by addressing the needs of emerging professionals. The need for a close relationship between the AIA and schools has never been greater.
  • We have the power to realize dreams and enhance lives. Through a collaborative spirit we can seize the imagination and initiative to lead our society. I am guided by a commitment to the values of sustainability and diversity informed by my experience in service roles. I believe the power of our profession lies in its diversity. Together we can lead by the authority of our ideas.
