Peter J. Arsenault, AIA, NCARB, LEED-AP

A vision for the future of the profession of architecture is emerging around us and the AIA is the vehicle to guide its further development. What does that vision include?

First, we architects can indeed create sustainable and livable communities. Imagine architects being seen around the country by all levels of elected officials as the primary “go to” people for sustainability issues. Through the efforts of individual architects and national AIA programs, we have great potential to address these issues and raise real public awareness about who architects are and what we do.

Second, architects must maintain strong leadership roles on project teams. The way we do this is changing. Those out front are embracing integrated practice methods and Building Information Modeling collaborations. Continuing along this path will bring us into a stronger role in the eyes of our clients, thus increasing our professional value—and our compensation.

Third, imagine a vibrant profession that is open and attractive to a growing number of young people. Through increased visibility and increased value as architects, we can be such an organization filled with creative, energetic individuals—with a real diversity of racial, ethnic, and social backgrounds.

In return for your support for my candidacy as your national VP during this, our 150th year, I pledge to work together with you to build on this compelling vision for our future.
