Six Honored with Young Architects Award
Each year, the AIA presents the Young Architects Awards to professionals licensed 10 years or fewer (regardless of their age), who show exceptional leadership and make significant contributions to the profession early in their careers. This year’s six recipients all are equally impressive in their broad range of contributions, however, please allow us a moment of nepotism to congratulate Suzanna Wight, AIA, the Institute’s emerging professionals director, who has helped us make AIArchitect more relevant to her special constituency.
College of Fellows Invests New Officers
The AIA welcomes the College of Fellows’ new executive committee, shown here at the Octagon last month. The distinguished officers, who will serve through December of this year, are: (upper step) Secretary Donald J. Hackl, FAIA, and Bursar Edward J. Kodet, FAIA, and (lower step) Chancellor Frank E. Lucas, FAIA, and Vice Chancellor Carole J. Olshavsky, FAIA. The group gathered to celebrate Lucas’ inaugural. (Photo by Douglas E. Gordon, Hon. AIA.)
Survivor: Architect Style!
Sylvia Kwan, FAIA, founder and chair of San Francisco-based Kwan
Henmi Architecture/Planning Inc., is a participant on the new Survivor:
Fiji, which premieres February 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Kwan
will be one of 19 contestants on the island of Fiji battling the
South Pacific elements for a $1 million prize in this new edition
of the long-running Survivor reality
series. (In case you’ve been stranded on an island and don’t
know, Survivor pits strangers against
each other in a remote location. Without comforts, the goals of the
players are to form tribes, outwit opponents in competitions, not
get “voted off,” and become the lone survivor.) Will
Kwan survive Fiji and win the big prize? AIA members will just have
to tune in each week to see! Click here to go to CBS’ Survivor Web
page to read her bio and view a video of an interview with her
shot prior to the start of production. Go
