A Roundup of Continuing Education Requirements by State—and Province
Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan set CES requirements for 2002 this week, all following the AIA Continuing Education System (CES) system and accepting AIA CES credits as valid for meeting their requirements. These provinces join Ontario and 22 states in the U.S. with requirements on the books or pending for mandatory continuing education for architects.

AIA Continental Europe Honors Four Projects
Three new buildings earned top prizes in the third annual International Design Awards program sponsored by AIA Continental Europe and Herman Miller Ltd. The awards jury also selected an Internet and telecommunications boutique in Paris for a chapter Award of Excellence.

Architects, Building Inspectors Respond to Kansas Tornado Disaster
A devastating Category F4 tornado struck Hoisington, Kans., on Saturday night, April 21; Sunday morning found members of the Kansas Disaster Assessment Program on the scene inspecting the damage. Working until dark, the assessment teams—architects, structural engineers, and building inspectors who are certified disaster inspectors—thoroughly checked 410 structures.

Competitors Selected for DOE Solar Decathlon
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Renewable Energy Lab (NERL) kicked off a yearlong competition April 22 as it announced 11 contestants in the 2002 Solar Decathlon, cosponsored by BP Solar and the AIA.

AIA Tampa Bay Hosts "Breakfast of Champions" for Rep. Jim Davis
Billed as its "Breakfast of Champions," AIA Tampa held a fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Jim Davis (D-Fla.) April 12. The event generated in-depth discussion for the architects and their congressional representative on state and national issues.
