The Council of Architectural
Component Executives (CACE) at its annual meeting elected 2006 officers,
shared knowledge on providing the best service to AIA members, and recognized
executive excellence August 10–13 in Portland, Ore., the City of Roses. “CACE
in Bloom” brought more than 150 AIA component staff leaders together
to learn more about human resources, membership, accounting, finance,
and available tools to help make their work more effective.
The blend of activities included an update on plans for the AIA150 anniversary
commemorations leading up to 2007, sessions on effective component programs
and activities, a presentation by U.S. Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.)
on the importance of community and design in Portland, walking tours
of downtown Portland—one of America’s most livable municipalities,
and a riverboat cruise to reinforce collegial bonds and enjoy the city’s
beautiful skyline. The program also offered time for the component executives
to meet with vendors and service providers.
