At
the May 18 general session, a call for nominations for treasurer went
unanswered; nominations therefore were closed, and Tommy Neal Cowan,
FAIA, who ran unopposed, was declared the AIA’s 2006–2007
treasurer. Cowan is managing partner and chief financial officer of Graeber,
Simmons & Cowan, a 50-person firm in Austin, and is the senior regional
director on the national Board. Serving in all leadership positions at
AIA Austin and the Texas Society of Architects, Cowan has been an integral
part of restructuring the financial operations of the AIA. He served
on the Finance and Audit Committee and Scholarship Task Force, and chaired
the 2005 Convention Site Selection Committee. He worked for Brooks, Barr,
Graeber and White, and 3DI before founding his current practice in 1978.
