The
AIA 2005 National Convention and Design Exposition, to be held May
19–21, at Las Vegas’ Mandalay
Bay Convention Center, will play host to three particularly captivating
theme sessions.
On
Thursday, May 19, come to the
premiere of a provocative documentary—produced
exclusively for this year’s convention—in which Las Vegas
powerhouses developer Steve Wynn and architect Tony Marnell join a
host of visionaries—including Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, FAIA;
Julie Eizenberg, AIA; artist China Blue; and Navaho cultural educator
James Peshlakai—to envision the future and explore the concept
of communities for the near and long term.
On
Friday, May 20, join five industry
professionals—Phillip
G. Bernstein, FAIA, Autodesk; Joseph G. Burns, FAIA, Thorton-Tomasetti
Group; Martin Fischer, Stanford University; Thomas Mayne, FAIA, Morphosis;
Patrick E. MacLeamy, AIA, Hellmuth, Obata, Kassabaum; and William P.
Tibbitt, Johnson & Johnson—for a panel discussion about the
application of advanced digital information and imaging technologies
in building design and construction and how they will affect the future
of your work. Highlights include object modeling, A/E interoperability,
CATIA, CFD, and other digital technologies.
On Saturday, May 21, architect, sculptor,
engineer, and 2005 AIA Gold Medalist Santiago Calatrava, FAIA,
the world renowned designer of the World Trade Center Transportation
Hub and 2004 Athens Olympic Sports Complex, will share his perspective
on building design and the opportunities, responsibilities, and
commitment of architects.
