FOR VICE PRESIDENT

Michael Broshar, AIA

I am honored to be a candidate for vice president of the AIA. The AIA has been an important part of my professional life, and I’ve enjoyed serving as the Central States regional director.

There are many challenges facing our profession and our society. Our response to those challenges will determine the success and future of our profession. As part of the Long Range Planning Advisory Group, I’ve reviewed strategic plans developed through the years and discovered many of our challenges remain in place. The Advisory Group recommended changes to the structure of the AIA governance to improve continuity, and those changes have been implemented.

The AIA strategic planning effort has become evolutionary rather than revolutionary. During recent years, a consistent vision, forged by strong leadership, has led to a strategic plan that is concise, understandable, and can be used by all AIA components. My focus will be working toward achievement of the strategic plan objectives.

Knowledge. In an increasingly technical world, knowledge is the tool that will sustain and elevate our value. I have served on the Knowledge Committee of the Board to establish the knowledge agenda for the AIA. Much remains to be done in the areas of research, linking our knowledge communities across the AIA, and providing information for our members.

Advocacy. We need to continue to strengthen our collective voice. We need to be strong advocates for the design of healthy, livable, and beautiful communities.

Community. The AIA is its members. Together, we need to ensure that the AIA provides value for all members, regardless of where they practice, learn, or live. All components need to be strong for the AIA to be successful.

I have always associated AIA with being an architect. The founding partners in our firm who served as my mentors strongly encouraged not just membership, but active participation. I bring to this job leadership skills and a strong motivation to make the AIA of ever-increasing value to the member and society. I welcome the opportunity to continue to serve and ask for your support.
