Ronald
J. Battaglia, FAIA
In 2007, we celebrate the AIA’s 150th anniversary. Our sesquicentennial
provides a unique opportunity for AIA architects to create a Blueprint
for the Future and build on our collective vision for leadership and
design across the country. This important benchmark can provide the AIA
with a national platform to communicate our vital role in creating healthy
communities within an increasingly global and diverse society. Uniting
local, state, and national components in planning this multi-year initiative
must begin now.
My Blueprint for the Future will also further advance our Strategic
Plan objectives: Community—encourage diversity and inclusiveness
by connecting the AIA and the future of our cities; Advocacy—reflect
the relevance of our mission by strengthening the AIA’s public
policies and legislative positions; Knowledge—empower AIA members
with research and information to make informed decisions, provide cutting-edge
services, and be leaders.
As your vice president, my goals are to:
• Enhance our role in society by providing a strong voice for design
leadership
• Advocate diversity within our profession, the services we offer,
and the clients we serve
• Leverage the knowledge gained from collaborating with NCARB, NAAB,
ACSA, and AIAS to develop programs and initiatives that ensure the long-term
health and stature of our profession and the Institute
• Align AIA resources and programs to strengthen small and midsize
firms
• Encourage and support mentoring of associates and emerging architects
• Promote professional-practice policies in the public and private
sectors that benefit society and our bottom line
• Advance our core values by advocating affordable housing, sustainable
communities, and revitalized cities.
I pledge to listen carefully and work collaboratively to seize this
exciting opportunity before us. I ask for your support and will continue
to work with you, as I have for more than 30 years. Together, we can
make a difference.
