Tap into the Power of Architecture: Imagine, Create, Transform
Join your peers at the AIA national convention, May 19–21 in Las Vegas

The AIA 2005 National Convention and Design Expo, May 19–21, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, will use this larger-than-life city as a backdrop for this year’s convention theme, “The Power of Architecture: Imagine, Create, Transform.” The convention will explore the imagination architects use to stretch the boundaries of the possible while evoking the wonder of delight; the creativity that builds healthy communities, fosters hospitality, and enriches identity; and the power of transformation that makes the desert a place to thrive, brightens the night, and turns dreams into reality. Myriad opportunities await you in the form of presentations, workshops, seminars, tours, and special events.

Learning opportunities: The convention provides the opportunity to earn all the continuing education credits required for annual AIA membership. Additionally, a wealth of knowledge from industry experts on products and services available on the AIAExpo floor will allow attendees to earn additional CES credit. AIA Expo2005 presents two easy-to-add learning opportunities—expo education sessions and CES Theaters, in which attendees can earn up to eight additional HSW Learning Units. Plus, more than 800 companies in 185,000 square feet of exhibit space offer the latest industry products, technology innovations, and services that affect the entire building community.

Tours: This year’s convention offers more than 60 tours, ranging from inspiring to jaw-dropping. Attendees can choose to visit the Yucca Mountains or Zion National Park; the mythical landscape work, Double Negative, or some of the newest Clark County K–12 facilities; Hoover Dam, one of America’s “seven modern engineering wonders,” or the “back of the House” of some of Las Vegas’ most popular casinos; and the photovoltaic array at one of Nevada’s latest and most diverse sustainable design projects.

Party! Party!: The “Lucky in Las Vegas Host Chapter Party,” to be held in the opulent 4.5 acre “Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis” at the legendary Caesar’s Palace will present world-class cuisine, cocktails, entertainment from the Strip’s top shows, and a (mock) gaming experience at its fastest and finest. Also, convention-goers can sample the city’s culinary flare at the Dining-by-Design programs; tee-off at the Chancellor’s Cup Golf Tournament; and network with peers at the convention’s many meetings, forums, and receptions.
