It’s That Time: Enter the 2004 AIA Photo Competition,
Sponsored by AIA St. Louis
Slide entries are due March 1

AIA St. Louis is once again pleased to host the AIA Photography Competition, open to all architects actively registered in the U.S., AIA associate members, and AIAS members or student members on any AIA chapter. The top 15 entries will be exhibited at the 2005 AIA National Convention in Las Vegas, May 19–21. These entries, plus some 40 additional images selected from all submitted, will be featured in a 2007 engagement calendar. A complimentary calendar will be provided to each entrant whose image(s) is selected.

Cash prizes will be:

  • First place, $500
  • Second place, $400
  • Third place, $300
  • Louise Bethune Award, $200 (named after the first female American architect, the subject of this award must be located in the U.S.)

The entries must have an architectural theme or contain some element of the manmade environment. Jurors for this year’s competition will be Eugene J. Mackey III, FAIA, Mackey Mitchell Associates, St. Louis; Elva Rubio, AIA, Gensler, Chicago; and Stephen Leet, Washington University, St. Louis. The jury will use the photographic interpretation of the subject matter as their main criterion for judging, not the architecture itself. Images previously published and/or pending publication or cash-winning images in previous AIA Photography competitions are not eligible.

The entry fee is $15 for AIAS members, $30 for AIA members, and $50 for nonmembers. Entrants may submit up to five slides for each entry fee, and may enter as many times as they like.

Entries are due March 1. Should you decide to enter the contest, please send duplicates, as slides will not be returned. Visit AIA St. Louis’s Web site to enter online or download an entry form. Questions? Contact AIA St. Louis by e-mail, or phone, 314-621-3484.
