USGBC Introduces LEED for Commercial Interiors | |||||||||||
Participants in Greenbuild, the U.S. Green Building Council’s annual conference and expo in Portland, Ore., recently got a first look at the organization’s new LEED™ Green Building Rating System for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI). The third rating system developed by the USGBC, LEED-CI follows LEED for Existing Buildings (LEED-EB) and LEED for New Construction (LEED-NC). The LEED Green Building Rating System for Commercial Interiors addresses performance areas including: selection of sustainable tenant space; efficiency of water use; energy performance optimization including lighting and lighting controls; resource use for interior building systems and furnishings; and indoor environmental quality, including comprehensive emissions criteria. The GBC currently is developing a companion rating system, LEED for Core & Shell developments (LEED-CS). Together, LEED-CI and LEED-CS will establish green building criteria for commercial real estate for use by both developers and tenants. Copyright 2004 The American Institute of Architects.
