2005 UIA World Congress in Istanbul to Focus on “Cities: The Grand Bazaar of Architecture”
Abstracts for presentations due September 13

The XXII World Congress of International Union of Architects (UIA) will take place July 3–7, 2005, in Istanbul. Held every three years since 1948, UIA world congresses offer platforms where the global agendas of architecture can be discussed. The 2005 congress, hosted by the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, will convene under the theme “CITIES: Grand Bazaar of Architecture.”

The idea of a bazaar or marketplace as a forum in which ideas are exchanged, discussed, and compete for recognition will shape the structure and content of the congress. The academic program of the congress centers on four themes:

  • “Celebration of World’s Cities” Program of UIA (2002–2004)
  • Architecture and Life in Cities
  • Architecture of Cities
  • Architectural Profession and Education Facing the City.

The UIA expects participation from diverse disciplines and professions concerned with cities worldwide. Architects may participate in a number of ways, including papers, posters, multimedia displays, and forum activities (workshops, panel, mini-symposiums, chat rooms, speakers’ corner, etc.). Abstracts and outlines (with brief CV) are due September 13. Those persons chosen to make presentations will be announced November 15.
