2004 ACSA/AIA Teachers’ Seminar Explores the Case Study for Architecture
Practitioners, educators to share insights July 8–11 at Cranbrook Academy

“Case Studies in Architecture,” the 2004 ACSA/AIA Teachers’ Seminar, takes place July 8–11 at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. This year’s seminar aims to provoke consideration and discussion about the case study in architecture.

Participants will explore the case study as a teaching model, a vehicle for scholarship, and as a means to build a body of knowledge for the future of the profession. They will explore the case study in law, business, and medicine, where it has long been a model for education, research, and practice. Perspectives from architectural criticism and journalism will show how to make a case study come to life.

Educators and practitioners will learn how to:

  • Develop a case study in collaboration with a firm or school of architecture
  • Integrate the development of case studies into teaching and practice
  • Advance scholarship and research in architecture
  • “Tell the story” to bring practice and experience to life.

2003 Topaz Medallion winner Marvin Malecha, FAIA; Laura Lee, FAIA; Richard Green, FAIA; and Harrison Fraker, FAIA, will cochair the event.
