AIA Launches Government Advocacy Action Center

The AIA has created the Government Advocacy Action Center Web site to bring members news and information on current federal and state issues and connect them with their legislators. The Web site also provides the resources to send letters and e-mails to elected representatives to ask them to take action on legislation important to architects.

The center soon will provide detailed information about all the hot issues the AIA is tracking as well as voting information. Members who access the site today can learn more about the pending transportation reauthorization bill and can contact their U.S. representative and U.S. senators about the “Jobs Bills” (HR 2896 and S 1637) and the “Hutchinson amendment,” which could result in a 3 percent tax cut on gross domestic receipts for architecture firms. The site allows members to send a prewritten text or customize their correspondence.

The site also features state issues and provides links to contact local representatives about pending community issues. The AIA Angle, the AIA members’ source for government news and analysis, also is available at the center.

Click here to access the site. Log in with your member number as your username and leave the password blank. The site uses log-in information to match your preferred address as listed in the AIA-membership database with your legislators, shown on the right side of this browser window. (If you are not matched with your home legislators, click on the “my account” tab and enter your home address in the correct fields.)
