AIA Expo2004: The Architectural Marketplace

AIA Expo2004, the exhibition feature of the AIA National Convention, showcases more than 800 cutting-edge companies and 170,000 square feet of new products, technology innovations, and services that touch the entire building community and help your business operate efficiently, effectively, and profitably. The New Product and Technology Center, sponsored by McGraw-Hill Construction, will return with more than 50 displays.

Popular product pavilions
Among AIA Expo2004’s special attractions are nine Product Pavilions, including three debuting this year:

  • The Interior Design Pavilion, sponsored by Interiors and Sources magazines, will present products and services for residential and commercial interior designs and design-oriented home furnishings.
  • The International Pavilion will feature cutting-edge companies based outside North America.
  • The Kitchen and Bath Pavilion will showcase the latest products and services for kitchen and bath design and construction.

And back by popular demand:

  • The Fabric Architecture Pavilion, sponsored by Fabric Architecture magazine, is where you’ll find the latest innovative balustrade systems, tensile fabrics, cable mesh, architectural sheet metal, and other distinctive products.
  • The Green Products Pavilion, sponsored by Environmental Design & Construction magazine, promotes sustainable design and energy-efficient products and services that meet client needs, conserve resources, and respect the environment.
  • The High Tech Pavilion will feature progressive companies that put technology to work with the latest design, drafting, engineering, and construction-management software.
  • The Lighting Pavilion, will take a fresh look at architecture, illumination, and design issues, from wall sconces, chandeliers, and task lighting to bollards, path lights, and security lighting.
  • The Restoration Products Pavilion, sponsored by Traditional Buildings magazine, will be a one-stop shop for preservation projects and the products that retain historic character and provide new functional elements and contemporary design character.
  • The Stone and Tile Pavilion, sponsored by Stone World and Contemporary Stone & Tile Design magazines will explore architectural expression with new shapes, textures, and design flexibility from river rock to granite to decorative tile.

Galleries and a party too
The expo also hosts galleries of award-winning architecture; the AIA Store and AIA Chicago Store, featuring the latest architecture books and an extraordinary selection of design-oriented gifts, objects of local interest, and one-of-a-kind items designed by leading architects; a free e-mail station to check your online messages; and the Relaxation Station, where two massage therapists will alleviate your stress!

AIA Expo2004 kicks off on Thursday, June 10, at 10 a.m., and its first day culminates with the Opening Night Party. This free, fun-filled gala celebrates the City of the Big Shoulders, where the architecture is magnificent and the jazz is hot!
