FOR SECRETARY

John Senhauser, FAIA

John Senhauser brings to the duties of AIA Secretary managerial insight and sensitivity to the importance of efficient and effective Institute policies and communications. Four values characterize his candidacy:

Civic responsibility. As an architect, John Senhauser orients himself by a public compass—to give life to civic values; to aim the resources and energies of the Institute toward community character; to ensure a just and accessible environment; to elevate the sense of common purpose in our work; and to celebrate architecture’s legacy, tradition, and responsibility to the future.

Professional vision. John has served for three years on the National Board of Directors. He supported the creation of AIA knowledge communities and will work to enliven clear ideas that help members turn abstract values into concrete benefits. After 25 years of successful practice as the owner of a seven-person firm, he knows how to align the lessons of small project practice with the broad visions and policies of the AIA.

Design integrity. John Senhauser Architects is the 1999 AIA Ohio Gold Medal Firm and the recipient of more than 50 awards that acknowledge John’s leadership in premium residential design. He understands that good design is the product of careful listening, advocacy, reflection, research, and creative risk.

Business ethics. John built his practice on sound fiscal management, which he has extended to the formation of Board policies. He steadfastly advocates for the judicious leveraging of institutional assets, for accountability to the membership, and trust. His management philosophy embraces broad collaboration and a strong team ethic.
