AIA Memphis honored Eugene Burr, AIA, with its Francis Gassner Award, the component’s most prestigious award. The award honors an architect or a member of a related profession for outstanding contributions to the quality of the built environment in Memphis.

Bruce Dahlquist, AIA, a partner in the firm of Dahlquist and Lutzow Architects Ltd., Hinsdale and Elgin, Ill., received a Community Service Award presented jointly by the Rockford Park District, Illinois Association of Park Districts, and the Illinois Park and Recreation Association.

Bruno B. Freschi, AIA, FRAIC, design principal at Cannon Design, was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. Nominated by the governor general of Canada, the lieutenant governor of British Columbia presented the medal to Freschi at a ceremony in Victoria, B.C. Part of the Canadian Honours System, the Jubilee Medal is symbolic of five decades of duty and service of Queen Elizabeth, Queen of Canada.

President Bush appointed José Galvez III, AIA, senior vice president, Cochran Stephenson & Donkervoet Inc., Baltimore, to a six-year term on the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC).

Michael Kennedy, AIA, received the 10th Ralph Rapson Traveling Fellowship from the Minnesota Architectural Foundation, in association with the University of Minnesota.

Chinese architect Wu Liangyong, Hon. FAIA, received from the Dutch Embassy the Netherlands’ 2002 Prince Claus Award, and was presented with a $25,000 check. With the award, Wu, director of the Institute of Architectural and Urban Studies at Tsinghua University, was recognized as an “urban hero” and for his work to preserve “traditional living environments.”

Jeffrey K. Liggett, AIA, principal, Loebl Schlossman & Hackl, Chicago, was elected president of the Illinois chapter of the International Interior Design Association.

Paul R. Lund, AIA, Victoria G.K. Rixey, AIA, Robert K. Sherrill, AIA, Steven D. Stotler, AIA, and Kristina D. Vidal, AIA, Bowie Gridley Architects, Washington, D.C.; James Moses, AIA, Wilson Architects, Boston; and Greg Roberts, AIA, Watkins Hamilton Ross Architects (WHR), Houston, have all received LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Lloyd H. Siegel, FAIA, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, received the National Institute of Building Sciences’ (NIBS) 2002 President’s Award in honor of his leadership, dedication, and contributions on behalf of the nation’s veterans, the heath-care sector, and the architecture profession.

Ana Rabelo Wallrapp, AIA, managing partner, Urban Studio Architects Inc., was named to the board of the Ronald McDonald House of Tampa Bay.
