Jerome Filer, FAIA
Why should you make me one of your vice presidents?
Personal:
This communications candidate served on the National Advertising Committee
under Chairperson Barbara Nadel, FAIA, in 2001 and 2002. The committee
promoted the AIA brand name, client linkage, and public outreach and researched
the mental images that the public and our clients have developed over
many years. I would promote the positive images about architects and work
to change the negative images.
Other goals:
Develop multiple programs for membership reinstatement and new-member
recruitment throughout all components. Strive for more than 50 percent
of all architects countrywide. Target architect educators, public architects,
women, and minority architects. Enhance opportunities for students, associates,
and interns. Emphasize membership that is affordable, accessible, and
so valuable it is indispensable.
Provide support to firms through practice seminar programs for economic
and professional success.
Offer strong support for a prudent Institute financial policy. Increase
reserves.
Promote allied membership and collaboration with construction industry,
engineers, and interior designers.
Support livable-communities initiatives and provide program funding.
Promote privatization by architects of regulatory functions of state
departments of regulation.
Prioritize initiatives that promote staff stability.
Promote partial allocation of some small public and federal agency projects
to some small architecture firms. (Small architecture firms compose 75
percent of AIA membership.)
