Paul Davis Boney,
FAIA
It is my goal as an AIA Vice President to build on the successes of
the past while staying firmly focused on the future. We must refer to
the AIM report and listen to the needs of our members as our guide to
the future.
We must continue our focus on sound financial management of the Institute.
We must work very hard to maintain trust and encourage a culture of optimism
within the AIA.
We have an obligation to provide critical leadership in our communities.
It is our responsibility to promote ethical business practices, environmental
awareness, and design excellence as we build healthy, livable communities.
By leveraging technology and using the knowledge generated through the
AIA, architects will be involved in the decision-making process and sought
out for expertise on these critical issues facing our communities.
We have an obligation to strengthen the diversity of our membership and
build on and respect a profession that includes many points of view. We
also have an obligation to mentor the next generation of architects. We
must provide students and interns with the resources they need to reach
their full potential. We also need to eliminate any boundaries between
the academy and the profession.
Serving as the 2003 AIA National Convention Chair, I have worked with
dedicated people at all levels of the Institute. I have seen firsthand
the leadership of AIA volunteer members and staff professionals working
together to plan an event that will be valuable, enlightening, and fun
for all of our members.
As a third-generation architect, I was taught the importance of balanced
judgment, patience, the ability to listen, and the ability to get along
with people. My leadership style is one of building consensus while understanding
and respecting the opinions of others. Having served the membership at
all levels, I have always tried to represent our profession with integrity
and honesty. I want to continue this tradition instilled in me by my family
by serving as Vice President of the American Institute of Architects.
