From Color Guard to Political Pundit, Government Affairs Day Starts Off with a Patriotic Flair
From 8:15 this morning, there was no doubt that Thursday February 28, was Government Affairs Day for the AIA's Grassroots Leadership conference. Following a moving "Presentation of the Colors" by the Joint Services Color Guard, plus a rousing rendition of the national anthem, AIA President Gordon H. Chong, FAIA, reminded the audience that Government Affairs Day is about "knowledge and then engagement" in the political process. Full Story

AIA President Gordon H. Chong, FAIA, began Friday's session on a high note: he reported that the group raised more than $29,000 for ArchiPAC yesterday! He called order to the session by telling all that it was "Component Leadership Day," an opportunity for participants to acquire knowledge about the issues and sharpen leadership skills. Full Story

AIA allies liven up the midday meal for Grassroots participants
The noon activities began with AIA Treasurer Douglas L. Steidl, FAIA, presenting a presidential citation to 2000-2001 Treasurer Harry Rutledge, FAIA. "I like to call him the savior of the AIA," Steidl said of his predecessor in recognition of Rutledge's efforts to put the AIA back on track to a balanced budget. The commendation also cited Rutledge's groundbreaking leadership in reestablishing the AIA's financial stability. Full Story

Ando Receives Gold Medal as Accent on Architecture Gala Celebrates Life After 9/11
Thirteen indeed proved a lucky number for the American Architectural Foundation (AAF) as they hosted the 13th annual Accent on Architecture: A Celebration of Design Excellence gala Friday, March 1, at the historic National Building Museum in the nation's capital. Harold L. Adams, FAIA, chair of the AAF Board of Regents, offered a welcome to the some 800 architects, associates, friends, and well-wishers on hand to honor some of the finest people-and buildings-the architecture profession has to offer.
