Convention Tackles "The Business of Architecture"

The 2002 AIA National Convention and Expo, May 9 to 11 in Charlotte, offers a host of programs designed to enrich the work of building and design professionals. These continuing-education opportunities provide the means to help meet the challenges facing the building industry and take advantage of the opportunities created by experience, education, and inclusiveness.

Tom Peters speaks out
Building and sustaining a viable architecture firm takes more than good creative design skills and excellent project management abilities. On Thursday, May 9, management guru Tom Peters—chair and founder of the global training and consulting company, tompeterscompany!—will tackle the business of architecture in these times of competition, ever-changing markets, turbo-charged technology, and thriving e-commerce.

Popular author, consultant, speaker, newspaper columnist, and host of BBC and PBS specials, Peters has helped formulate competitive American management practices and authored numerous books, including the renowned In Search of Excellence. He describes himself as "a prince of disorder, champion of bold failures, maestro of zest, professional loudmouth, corporate cheerleader, lover of markets, capitalist pig, and card-carrying member of the ACLU."
