Citations and Jurors' comments
Omniplan Inc. for Snack Food Manufacturing
Support, five U.S. locations. "Rather than being a cookie cutter
corporate prototype design, the uniqueness of each site would be enhanced.
The forms are successful in their solidity and transparency."
HNTB Architects Engineers Planners, Corgan Associates, and HKS,
Inc., for Terminal D, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Tex. "[The
terminal's] graceful roof form makes the design attractive from the parking
side as well as the plane side. There is an interesting use of materials
in the public spaces that departs from the norm."
Laguarda.Low Architects, for Troia Hotel Casino, Troia, Portugal.
"As an international project in a remote location, it shows sensitivity
to context that creates a sense of place."
RTKL Associates Inc., for the Charles W. Eisemann Center, Richardson,
Tex. "This performing arts center project gives a civic function
to a group of office buildings and uses circulation to organize the project.
The space of the plaza is drawn into the building in a clear way."
Teruya Arquitectos y Asociados, for City Express, Lima. "This
design for a laundry and dry cleaning establishment recognizes its urban
context with the use of a wall to define the space. The abstract idea
of cleanliness is given form by a water mirror above the entrance canopy
that creates reflections on the lobby ceiling. Environmental considerations
are introduced through clerestory windows that bring in natural light,
as well as a natural ventilation system."
Honor
Awards (Built Projects)
RTKL Associates Inc. and Selzer Associates,
Inc. for Mockingbird Station, Dallas
Edward M. Baum & John Maruszczak and Oglesby-Greene Architects,
for the Dallas Police Memorial. "We really liked the conceptual art
piece, where the numbers on the roof cast a negative shadow on the ground.
We can imagine how they change over the period of a day."
Morrison Seifert Murphy, for Travis Street Houses, Dallas. "Great
economy, simple, no-nonsense. It was very coherent, especially for a small
house. The wall had the right amount of shadow."
Merit
Awards (jurors' comments are excerpted below)
Sharon Odum Architect, 2x4x8x16 House, Avinger,
Tex. "Gray green color is good with warm color of the woods! A minister's
retreat with a Japanese feeling, it is asymmetrical and within budget."
Cunningham Architects, University of Dallas-Haggerty Art Center,
Irving, Tex.
Beck Architecture, Studio I, Dallas. "They really worked out
the details with appropriate, simple clarity that respected this old building."
PGAL/Pierce Goodwin, Alexander and Linville, Inc., AMX Corp. (Formerly
