From: Janes,
Mike Hi EmilyMike Janes here at The American Institute of Architects in Washington. It's been a while since I last bugged you via email . . . :-) Hope everything's well with you (and I hope all the "Survivor" and "Big Brother" cross-marketing is helping to revive the show!). I had a quick idea I wanted to run by you that I thought might pique your interest. I came across this fellow during our recent convention, and I thought he and the topic were really interesting: Victor Regnier, both an architect and a gerontologist (he teaches at the University of Southern California), is a renowned expert on assisted-living housing facilities for older people. At the recent AIA convention, Regnier presented a fascinating workshop based on a 1999 site visit research analysis of 100 housing projects for older mentally and physically frail people in five Northern European countries. Regnier can illustrate design features that make the assisted-living environment more accessible, encourage independence, enable informal social exchange, support therapeutic programs, build physical competency, and balance the community and privacy concerns of residents. Regnier, by the way, was a recent guest on the NPR program "Fresh Air" on this topic, a topic which, I'd imagine, is an ever-increasingly important one for many Early Show viewers. I'm sure that Victor can, if asked, provide some materials (images, models, or b-roll) that would visually enhance a segment. Let me know if this strikes you as "doable," or if you'd like more info on Victor and his work. Best, Mike Janes Copyright 2001 The American Institute of Architects. All rights reserved. |
