BOMA Recognizes 13 Office Building Designs

The Building Owners and Managers Association recognized 12 office buildings for excellence in office building management and operations and one for excellence in environmentally sound office building management. The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Awards and the Earth Award are BOMA's most prestigious building awards. The 2001 winners were announced at the BOMA International convention in June.

The judging process for the 12 TOBY categories included building tours and entry portfolios that outlined building standards, impact on community, tenant and employee relations programs, energy management systems, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, emergency evacuation procedures, and training programs for building personnel.

The Earth Awards judges examined hazard communication standard programs, management of environment risks, emergency response plans, water and energy conservation, indoor air quality, green purchasing policies, and tenant communications.

Prior to advancing to the International competition, all entries had to first win at local and regional competitions, which were held across North America.
