Online Continuing Education Made Easy

There's a new site for AIA continuing education courses developed from seminars presented at past AIA national conventions and 1999 Build Boston: http://eclassroom.aia.org.

This site replaces e-architect.com, which the AIA no longer maintains.

Launched June 18, eclassroom.aia.org offers multimedia lecture presentations that are supplemented with new learning materials, such as links to additional resources, handouts, and discussion groups. Each course includes a quiz to help members earn AIA Continuing Education System learning units. Courses offer up to 2 learning units (LUs) apiece.

Among the dozens of selections are courses on design, presentation skills, strategic business planning, the construction economy, and construction administration. Coming soon will be courses from the 2001 AIA convention in Denver.

Among the more popular seminars available are:
Sarah Susanka, AIA, explaining the success of her residential-architecture practice (S37)
James Terry, AIA, pointing out ways to avoid common ADA errors (S27)
Lawyers Bruce Lombardo, Gunther Carrle, and Bill Quatman, AIA, highlighting the contract documents (S117 and S155)
2000 Gold Medalist Ricardo Legorreta, Hon FAIA, discussing his work (S49).

The pricing structure for AIA members is:
• Courses carrying one or 1.25 LUs are $49.95
• Courses carrying 1.5 LUs are $74.95
• Courses carrying 1.75 or 2 LUs are $99.95.
(Nonmember prices are $74.95, $112.95, and $149.95, respectively.)

On completion of the quiz, if one has provided a valid AIA member number, the system records learning units with the AIA/CES database at the University of Oklahoma. (Nonmembers may request a certificate of completion via fax.)

If you are interested in trying the system out, there is a free demo seminar on the site. The demo is taken from the most popular convention seminar ever, "The Top 10 Ways to Prevent Major Screwups During Construction."
