Education Facilities Dominate AIA Michigan's Awards Program

Detroit Country Day SchoolAIA Michigan honored 14 projects, all in the state, as outstanding examples of creative architectural design. Education facilities dominated the winners, including two early education daycare buildings.

• Detroit Country Day School Early Education Facility, Bloomfield Hills, by TMP Associates
• Child Activity Center, Henry Ford Community College, Dearborn; Montcalm Community College, Beatrice E. Doser Building, Sidney; and Bay de Noc Community College, Joseph L. Heiman University Center, Escanaba, by Straub Pettitt Yaste
• Delta College Planetarium and Learning Center, Bay City; and Detroit Cornice and Slate Building, Greektown, by Kessler Associates
• Kalamazoo Public Library, Oshtemo Branch, by David Milling & Associates Architects
• Kalamazoo Rotary Community Stage, by Eckert Wordell
• Kempton Elementary School, Saginaw, by Wigen Tincknell Meyer Associates (Twenty-five Year Award Category)
• Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center, Ypsilanti, by Rossetti Associates and Barton Malow Design
• Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids, by McIntosh Poris and SmithGroup
• JaoDin Restaurant, Detroit, by Albert Kahn Associates
• Hyatt Regency Dearborn hotel renovation, by Ford and Earl Associates
• ABC Harley Davidson dealership, Waterford, by Victor Saroki & Associates

In addition, AIA Michigan honored Luckenbach/Ziegelman Architects, Birmingham, Mich., as firm of the year.
