National Component Promotes Gribbs, Hayes, Madden

Christopher Gribbs, Assoc. AIA, took hold of the reins of the Meetings and Events team as its interim managing director. Gribbs has served in a variety of roles during his 15-year tenure with the AIA. He joined the AIA in 1986 as assistant director in Professional Services. Subsequently, he served as the director, Committee Programs for the Practice/Education Group; managing director in AIA Professional Practice; director, Committee on the Environment and Design for Aging Center; and director, Convention Programs in AIA Meetings and Events. Gribbs holds a BArch from the University of Detroit. Before joining the AIA, he was an intern architect with Michigan-based Louis G. Redstone Associates, Inc., and a supervisory architect with the National Park Service. Cgribbs@aia.org or 202-626-7353.

Richard L. Hayes, PhD, AIA, has been promoted to the newly formed position of director, Center for Design and Construction, on the Professional Practice team. Hayes joined the AIA in 1998, bringing 15 years of professional experience to the Institute. He has served as: staff architect for the Department of the Navy and at the Georgia Institute of Technology; architecture department director for U.P. Engineers and Architects in Houghton, Mich.; and research architect with the Construction Engineering Research Laboratory in Champaign, Ill. Hayes holds a PhD in Architectural Theory and History from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an MArch from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BS from Central Michigan University. He is professionally affiliated with the National Building Museum, National Preservation Institute, and the Society of Architectural Historians. Rhayes@aia.org or 202-626-7539.

Carol Madden was promoted to managing director, Membership Systems. In her new role, she will focus on several key projects, TIMSS membership module management, member invoicing/dues processing, member retention and reinstatement programs, membership marketing, and continuing education systems. Madden joined the AIA in October 2000 as director, Member Relations for National Operations, bringing more than 25 years of experience in national and chapter association membership. She began her career by coordinating member services at the local level as the director of member services for the Home Builders Association of mid-Florida, then held a similar position with the Information Industry Association in Washington, D.C. Next, she served as the vice president of membership for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.
