President
John Anderson, FAIA, set the tone of the May 19 session by noting the
inseparability of built form and human experience. Gold Medalist Michael
Graves, FAIA, and Daniel Libeskind both looked at the past as prelude
to the future by considering the context of what makes people identify
with a place and projecting on that the social and technological realities
of the present and expectations for the future. The buildings of the future
will certainly be different in function and appearance, but they must
become part of their historic context or fail. First Vice President Gordon
Chong, FAIA, moderated the question segment.
