Seventy-Two New Fellows
Invested into the AIA 2001 by Jennifer Russell
As
the Denver sun streamed through panes of stained glass and painted rainbows
in St. John's Cathedral, AIA President John D. Anderson, FAIA, welcomed
the 2001 class of Fellows.
Robed in black, the 72 new Fellows were recognized
for community service; work in health-care, higher education, and sustainable
architecture; and efforts to preserve historical buildings. Each individual,
receiving an escort to the stage by a former President or Chancellor,
approached as an AIA member and retreated as a newly minted Fellow.
Following
the Fellowship Charge presented by Chancellor Harold Roth, FAIA, the crowd
that had gathered inside the arched cathedral stood and gave a resounding
round of applause. Former Presidents and Chancellors led the processional,
and the 2001 class of Fellows followed to music performed by Aries Bass
Quartet and Colorado Isle of Mull/St. Andrew Pipes and Drums.
A reception followed the ceremony on the lawn outside
of St. John's Cathedral. Families and friends celebrated with their loved
ones who have achieved the highest honor in the architectural profession.
