AIA Tampa Bay Hosts "Breakfast of Champions" for Rep. Jim Davis | |||||||||||
Billing it as a "Breakfast of Champions," members of AIA Tampa held a fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Jim Davis (D-Fla.) April 12. The event generated in-depth discussion for the architects and their congressional representative on state and national issues. The $200-a-plate event and a national ArchiPAC donation raised $3,200 for Davis, a key legislator and potential Florida gubernatorial candidate. John Cochran, AIA, hosted the breakfast, and Enrique Woodroffe, FAIA, and Mickey Jacob, AIA, organized it. Davis and his district director, John Kynes, talked spiritedly on education, the federal tax plan, and bipartisan cooperation in Congress, Jacob reported from the meeting. "We also discussed state issues, including growth management; the problem of Florida schools keeping up with the growth in student population; and the controversial water issue facing our region due to the severe drought," Jacob said.
