Notice of Proposed Bylaws Amendments
Delegates will vote on residency requirements, nonvoting CACE representation on the executive committee, terms for vice presidents.

The Board of Directors has sponsored amendments to the AIA Bylaws for consideration by the delegates at the annual business meeting in Denver May 19, as follows:

Bylaws Amendment 01 - A
Residency Requirements for Regional Directors

The membership within each region shall be represented on the Board by one or more Directors, who must be Architect members of the Institute. Nothing in these Bylaws, however, shall be construed as prohibiting a region from adopting or amending provisions in its bylaws that would require a Regional Director to reside or maintain his/her principal place of business in the region he/she represents during the period of that representation.

Bylaws Amendment 01 - B
Residency Requirements for Component Officers

Nothing in these Bylaws shall be construed as prohibiting a component from adopting or amending provisions in its bylaws that would require a component officer to reside or maintain his/her principal place of business within the geographic territory assigned to the component by the Institute during the period he/she serves as a component officer.

Bylaws Amendment 01 - C
Inclusion of Non-Voting CACE Representative on the Institute's Executive Committee

There shall be an Executive Committee of the Board composed of the elected officers of the Institute and the Executive Vice President/CEO. The immediate past president of the Council of Architectural Component Executives shall also be included as a member of the Executive Committee, but shall have no voting rights on the Executive Committee. If that individual is unable or unwilling to serve, the Council shall be represented by such other individual as the Council's Executive Committee shall designate.

Bylaws Amendment 01 - D
Governance: Terms of Office for Vice Presidents

The Board authorizes the Executive Committee to prepare a proposed amendment to Section 6.134 of the Institute's Bylaws to provide that: (a) the term of office for each of the AIA's Vice Presidents shall be two years; and (b) the terms of the Vice Presidents shall be staggered.

Also to be considered for a vote at the convention are two resolutions:

Dues assessment authorization for continued television advertising: The Board of Directors is sponsoring a new resolution that would authorize extension of the current dues assessment of $50 per year on each architect member for a period of three years, ending in 2004. (The assessment would be adjusted annually in the years 2003 and 2004 in an amount equivalent to the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for the preceding 12-month period.) The assessed funds would be used only for advertising or similar sponsorship or underwriting opportunities.

AIA support of educational and licensing standards: AIA Philadelphia is sponsoring a resolution supporting the Institute's partnership with institutions of higher education to encourage active AIA participation in degree programs leading to licensure; work toward creation of minimum acceptable standards first professional architectural degrees, licensure, and AIA membership; and support offer of the licensing exam-uniformly throughout the U.S.-to begin in the final semester of any accredited first professional architectural degree program. The Board position is neutral on this resolution
