Sharon
Carter Matthews, AIA, will become executive director of the National Architectural
Accrediting Board October 1. She comes to NAAB from the Wentworth Institute
of Technology in Boston where she was head of the department of architecture,
which comprises a five-year professional architecture degree program and
an architectural engineering technology bachelor of science program.
A practicing architect, Matthews is active in the
AIA, most recently serving as the Boston Society of Architects commissioner
for education and research. She worked on the Wentworth NEASC Accreditation
Committees on Physical Resources and Mission and Vision and on the board
of the Boston Architectural Center.
Before Wentworth, Matthews was head of the division
of architecture and art at Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. Her BA
is from Columbia University and MArch from Yale. Her research has focused
on the design of fortifications.
