Component Executives at Work in Sweltering San Antonio

With temperatures hovering near 100, the Council of Architectural Component Executives (CACE) came together in San Antonio August 16–18 to elect their 2002 leadership, swap experiences, and sharpen management expertise.

Mission Possible was the theme of this year's CACE Annual Meeting. Thursday the 16th began with training on the TIMSS membership database system and leadership meetings. 2001 CACE President Janet D. Pike, Hon. AIA, convened the plenary session in the afternoon, which included presentations by AIA President John D. Anderson, FAIA, and AIA Executive Vice President/CEO Norman L. Koonce, FAIA.

Friday's proceedings included a look into preferred futures for the profession, led by 2002 President Gordon H. Chong, FAIA, and 2003 President Thompson E. Penney, FAIA. Specifically, they addressed membership inclusiveness, knowledge gathering and dissemination, and architectural education. The breakout educational sessions that filled out the rest of the day covered a range of component management topics, particularly generating nondues revenue.

Executives rose early on Saturday to revisit inclusiveness and what it means to draw a wider circle of professional and personal representation for the Institute. The CACE Business Meeting and elections also took place Saturday.

CACE Officers in 2002 are:

Karen Lewand
President-elect
