GOLD MEDAL

Steven Holl, FAIA

The AIA’s highest individual honor is bestowed on Holl, the New York City-based architect known for a humanist-derived approach to architecture that draws upon the arts and sciences to develop ingenious formal solutions.

“It’s an amazing day,” said Holl yesterday after being informed of his selection. “I am definitely going to have a good birthday tomorrow!”

ARCHITECTURE FIRM AWARD

The modest Minnesota firm respected for its consistently rigorous approach to research-driven form-making is honored with the 2012 AIA Architecture Firm Award.

“Thank you very much,” said firm principal Vincent James, FAIA, after being informed yesterday of the firm’s selection. “The AIA has been wonderful, and we depend on it in many ways.”
