PBS DOCUMENTARY

Rooted in Place: Samuel Mockbee, FAIA, and the Rural Studio
On August 23, Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio will premiere on PBS, shining a light on one of architecture’s most well-loved and influential humanitarians. Today, Mockbee’s legacy lives on in non-profit organizations like Architecture for Humanity, and in numerous academic programs modeled after his Rural Studio. The film, directed by documentary filmmaker Sam Douglas, explores this influence after Mockbee’s death in 2001 and asks how much architecture can be used to confront and redress social crisis.
